This is scary

Check out this article. Damn we’ll pay for it if you have to. The final diagram is shocking.

I reckon our players are so fucking slow that their 'sprints' arent technically fast enough to count as a sprint. Hence we are the lowest.

Exactly. I know for a fact Leeds would rather have finished were we did and be where we are on that chart.

But I do agree with others. One of the squads issues is lack of speed which means defence can;t play as high a line as they want to instigate the press. This invites teams onto us.

But not anything to do with this graph.

Goals in the net is the only stat that matters unless you can get a correlation between running around and goals in the net.

I would have thought keeping your strength as others tire could be one to look at.

Load of old bollox. Tearing around didnt do Watford or Norwich much good.

Re: Are we the laziest bunch in the league?
That is a completely meaningless statistic. Why would you draw a statistical comparison between number of sprints a player makes in 90 minutes to the distance they sprint in 90 minutes. The very nature of that statistic means that a lineal progression is enforced. The second statistic is a direct result of the first.
You can't draw any meaningful conclusions from it as you can see Leeds supposedly are the hardest working and we are the laziest. Well we had a pretty good year and they were nearly relegated. The rest of the teams are spread across that fairly lineal progression with no real comparison to finishing point on the ladder which is the real indicator of performance.
If one is going to use statistics to try to prove something they should not be self-fulfilling.

Re: Are we the laziest bunch in the league?
One of many pointless stats. The players play as the manager wants them to in the system he wants to play.
From what I've seen it's either quite direct with a long ball forward or counter attack. Most of the time we concede possession and just plug the space to make it harder to make a forward pass. Very little pressing or carrying the ball.

What speed do they determine it is a sprint

Re: Are we the laziest bunch in the league?
It's tough to play a high line with someone as slow as cresswell, it's why we're forever welcoming pressure

Re: Are we the laziest bunch in the league?
If only we'd sprinted more. We could have been up there with Norwich.

Are we sure they counted noblesse "sprints". They might look like slow jogs to others, but that's as fast as his legs go

Is rather see distance covered

is it still a sprint if the player making it can't outrun the average polio victim?

Re: Are we the laziest bunch in the league?
It's a bit like saying so and so make the most passes in the League but the question is how many of them were played forward? Moyes said to play in this team you have to run about and w do sit off and invite teams to come at us so that's probably part of the reason. That said we do need some pace as we are very slow.

Wait to see how long it takes for the thread turns into blaming the owners or the new ground for the reason.

Re: Are we the laziest bunch in the league?
Our players are not lazy, we are just in the main a very slow team. Probably the slowest in the Prem.

I said a good while back, when Fornals starts on the left, which has been often, him and Cresswell could well be the slowest flank in Europe, which allows the opposition to put so much pressure on us. Fornals has been praised to high heaven, but when he starts on that side, him 'working hard' is a necessity because we're always on the back foot. We need left sided players who will give the opposition something to think about.

I do think we could press more without the ball, instead of inviting them on?

Re: Are we the laziest bunch in the league?
That's interesting and certainly gives us something to work on with our recruitment as it illustrates what a lot of us already knew which is that we need more pace in our team to play the way we want. Faster players will typically sprint more as they know they have a greater chance of winning the ball, we have a lack of real pace in the team and need to address that.

It didn't serve Leeds well to be the best in this category but you dont want to be that far negatively off the mean average in anything unless its goals conceded.

Re: Are we the laziest bunch in the league?
Not really. I mean, look where it got Leeds.

And you could argue that the team that does less sprints per player and less distance is the most organised.

I think the benchmark has to be City. But when you look their player sonly did two sprints more than ours per game. And they only ran 30 metres per game more. So it's fine lines.
